« on: Mar 30, 2017, 06:12 AM »
There is a  public hearing today on LD 1080  n Act to Prohibit Fish Stocking or Using Live Fish as Bait in Tributaries to State Heritage Fish Waters.  Seems to have flown under the radar.

1pm
Cross Office Building
Room 206
Augusta

State Heritage Waters as of January 2015.  These may have changed.

Heard they had the public hearing on this one Jay. The only people to speak against this legislation was MIF@W. I did hear yesterday that one of concerns the Department has is if this gets passed, possibly stocking would have to stop on some of the lakes in northern Maine for fear of hatchery fish making their way to the Heritage Brook Trout Waters via tributaries. Hope they take a hard look at this one before making any decisions.

Sounds like the barn door was open a long time ago. Planting fish, even brook trout, by state and federal fish and game agencies without regards to their linage has been going on for quite a while - even in Maine.
