Carp and suckers are different fish. Grass carp and common carp are also different fish all together. Suckers are smaller than common or grass carp on average. Many people use both suckers and carp for catfish bait. Suckers will have smaller scales than carp, which makes them a little easier to work with when using smaller hooks, but it shouldn't be an issue when using big catfish hooks. Hope that helps.

I personally have way moe faith in sucker meat for catfish. I usually have a nightcrawler out trying to catch suckers, bullheads, etc. Always end up with a carp and have never caught a catfish on their meat. However, if you have the right spot, it doesn't take long with a chunk of sucker meat.

These are suckers..

Suckers are slimmer, and more lightly colored than carp. Suckers have a true sucker mouth with no visible jaw on the bottom of their head. Suckers are native, carp are an invasive from Asia. Suckers top out at about 24'' to 28'', carp can grow to behemoth proportions.

This is a carp (found pic on internet)
