Fishing and Camping
« on: Aug 13, 2009, 08:01 AM »
I was recently blessed with another awesome camping/fishing trip with my family.

I took my boys out (separately) in a wood-strip canoe my dad built for me years ago. They both were naturals. We caught a ton of whites and had a fish fry that night.

I did manage a morning of "Big Daddy fishing" as my kids like to call it.

Man, I am one lucky son-of-a-gun! :)

Beautiful canoe! Looks like the kids had a good time. Good parents = good kids. Nothing wrong with getting hooked on fishing at an early age.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing...

Well guys, I know what your saying, but my father was not only the builder, he was also the one who convinced me to use it. It bothered him that I had it safely on display in my garage. He said he built it for me because he thought I would enjoy using it. Well, now it has been in the water about 5 times. I've paddled with my father twice , each of my sons and solo (everyone landed fish). I've been careful with it, but I haven't changed my methods much. I won't lie, it's got a couple new scratches, but I already know what my Dad will say..."gives it character." I do appreciate what you are saying though.

Hey Bob,
Thanks. I got that paddle about 6 or 7 yrs ago from my wife as a gift for use with a 14ft plastic canoe I used to solo with, but that winter my ignorance led to my canoe getting crushed by snow and ice. Anyway, this was my first time using it. I think I like it a lot. I'm pretty used to an old wooden LL Bean paddle, but I think the kyak paddle combined with the lightweight canoe is a little smoother, easier, even faster (when you want).
Good to see you got some nice stripers Bob. What do you target in the fall? :)
