I know Seneca doesn't freeze over. But what about the ramps and launches how do you get your boat in and out? Are they not covered in ice and snow.
fish seneca last sat, it was way to cold till around 11:oo. Could not keep the rods from iceing up and no wd40 in the boat.Started to pic away at them on the east side around sampson area. At the end of the day 32 nice fish.
anyone ever catch perch off of the pier by the ramada in geneva ?
Really want to fish one of these lakes for hog perch...anyone have a good suggestion for starters, never fished the finger lakes...
Start at Roy's Marina about 2 miles south of Geneva on Route 14. Not the best launch, but pay the $6.00 and talk to the owners Larry & Roz. They are super nice people and will give you some good and current information. They also have a decent amount of the right tackle to get you started. There is good fishing for perch right in their bay - Glass Factory - and it's as good a place as any to start.Go with light line 4-6lb test, but not necessarily a light action rod. These fish are caught as deep as 100' sometimes and most often between 20-50'. Heavy weights are used to get down fast and an ultalight rod just doesn't give you the sensitivity you need with heavier weight. I use medium & sometimes medium light action rods. If you are lucky and get a calm day, cruise around along the drop or in the deepest water you can see bottom in. You will eventually see what your after. Probably won't catch too many of them, but it will get you fired up. These are uncommonly spooky fish, so give others plenty of room, whether you are just scouting or looking to pull up and anchor. This is a tough lake to fish!!!! Don't get discouraged, but you need to put your time in.
