Hey Rg,

I got the Redington "RedStart" rod I mentioned earlier just yesterday. The Mrs. was away so I took it out in the yard and strapped my Pflueger 1495 to it loaded with WF6F. Not a bad rod I must say! I believe it's more of a medium fast than medium action as I thought it would be. I still think I'll go with a 7wt line as it's rated 6/7 and I think it'll work well on it.

Nice!
I'm having a garage sale next weekend. I have a few I'm gonna put on the table along with about 15 ice rods, a couple big boxes of flies and a whole bunch of other stuff. Someone is gonna get some decent deals ;D

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

The fly fishing threads here rekindled my passion for the sport.  My gear was stolen years ago and I just got back into it.

The fish above felt awesome after so many years of not fly fishing

Well, at least you didn't forget how ;D

I know how it feels. I lost my gear to a basement flood many years back.

I guess not!  I went last night and had a tough time getting hooksets while nymph fishing.

So, that feels new to you?

Seems like old times to me. But then, I'm a lousy trout fisher.

It feels familar but a new challenge.  I brought it with me yesterday and my buddy Tim stepped on it in the boat.  I was looking forward to using it against some bass.

You ever tie any dragonfly patterns?

Yup broke it.  But its cabelas so I should be able to replace it at no cost.  Those flies look sweet!

Did you use him for an anchor?

Pretty simple patterns really. Make the wings first.
Tie on a couple clumps of Zap a Gap to set and hold the wing shape. Do them one at a time.
Build a body with two strips of craft foam laminated over the wing and hook using super glue.

Either use a large hook with a weed guard or a smaller hook without one. I prefer no weed guard. It adds weight.

There's a number of ways to create the tail segments. I like to use a darning needle and tie it as an extended body.

There's a ton of YouTube videos on the technique.

Color seems not to be an issue. Bass are pretty stupid and eat just about anything ;D
