Thanks guys....been putting my time in for them for sure.  My line of work (landscape design/construction) offers me more time to fish this time of year.  I am often busiest when the dry flies are hatching and unfortunately miss out on a lot of that action in a few months.  Gotta take it when you can get it !

Trap, my one friend in the Buffalo area did just that 2 days ago.  He is burnt out on crowded steelhead streams and wanted to try something different.  He hit a warming stream/canal and got 2 to chase and eat.

Hey guys, I got a question.  Its been a few years since I hit the streams.  I heard that felt soles are out.  Is that true?  Thanks Geo.

reason felt soles are looked down on is that they stay wet and  you can transport unwanted  invasive species such as  zebra mussels  or rock snot  ...I suggest a pair of  corkers  or go to a carpet  store  get  some  cheap grass carpet and  glue it on with  contact cement...it drys very quickly

Matty and Trap... Thanks for the info.  I think I will replace the beloved felt with some plastic grass. Geo.

Brief trip (but aren't all vacations) for a few days down to grab some warm rays with the wife in FLA.  Rods of course were packed as well as some scheduled time on the water.  traveled to Canaveral National Seashore and fished the Mosquito Lagoon estuary with hopes of redfish.  First time to this area, but found a place to rent a couple of kayaks and did some exploring.  Well, the reds eluded me so I had to settle for this lousy bycatch.  First snook on the fly and now off my bucket list.  Hit a foam gurgler pattern on the surface I had tied the night before we left home.  Probably could have hired a guide and caught more fish but the satisfaction of DIY can't be matched.

Did a little 'conventional' fishing today. First time without a fly rod (other than ice) this year, man did I feel googanesque. You will get funny looks if A) you try to mend with 20 yrds of mono in a breeze with a 6' ultra lite. B) If you miss a fish, calmly watch a bobber fly past your head, pause, and try to cast it back before it hits the ground behind you only to rap some slack 4lb mono around your neck..  ::)
