what kind of beetles and ants do you make and use this time of year? I've found that a red ant works quite well when there is little surface action and no hatches.black ants can't be seen by my eyes.

Try a "little brown caterpillar"
Really easy tie and it works!
#12 TMC 200R
UTC 210 black
1/16 craft foam
Black ostrich herl
Lay a thread base to just past the hook point
Tie in 2 ostrich herl
Tie down the strip of foam as shown
Build 4 segments toward the eye leaving some room behind the eye
Bring the herl forward wrapping each segment. Use up the remaining herl wrapping it at the eye and tie it off at the eye.
A drop of super glue on the bottom with hold everything in place after you straighten it all out
Tie them up in any color.

The gills and bass like it. Especially in the evening. They smash it on a dead drift.

I figure the smallies are mowing down the crayfish now so I tied up a few "Fuzzy Buggers".
Might work.

Didn't do any good for me in the creek I fished today. Couldn't raise a smallie. Did get a few big fallfish. One went over a pound. Fun all the same.

Like these Trapper
Tied some up for this morning. Gonna tromp a good long portion of the "backyard stream". May harass the carp too.
