What's your favorite fishing line
« on: Nov 28, 2013, 07:59 PM »
I'm sold on braid, but believe mono has its place.  River fishing in winter, use #8 triple me or even basspro brand improved formula excel...not bad.  Btw, why don't most reels come with the spare spool anymore?  But back to the topic, what's your go to line?

Also on the subject of braid, does anyone use it in the cold winter days river fishing...casting problems or icing up?

I use Power Pro most of the time, but am switching over to Cortland Master Braid (a even better braid) as I wear out the PP. I use it year round, fresh, salt, ice fishing or open water. The one place I still use Mono is trout streams and I still use good old Stren... Most of the time I use a Fluoro leader at the end of my braid, and for that I use Seagaurd Leader Material attached with a Sampo Ball Bearing Swivel.

While I do use braid for specific situations - most times I'm using Silver Thread AN-40. It was very popular at one point(they tried to replace it with "super" Silver Thread and got a ton of angry letters so they brought it back. Unfortunately it is getting hard to find around my area(between Wal-Mart + Cabelas up the street there are no small shops left :'(). Other than ordering direct(may get to that) Bass Pro was my source last season as Cabela's stopped carrying it.

I have been using mostly Vanish for the last few years, but have recently turned a couple reels over to braid.  I'm liking what I see so far and will be changing over a lot more reels in the spring.  When I need a leader I use Vanish for that purpose on my set ups.

Someone told me that they had problems with Fireline as far as fraying.......so far I've used Power Pro, but think I want to try Suffix...........

I've heard that Danny B.......thanks.  Hoping to catch it on sale this winter and stock up on some.  I'm equipping new jigging rod/reels and then some of my crawler harness reels are due for an update........

The one attached to my fish!

I am currently leaning towards P-LINE Spectra Braid.

suffix siege in neon tangerine with 3 feet of seagar blue label tippet. i like to see the line move when a bass picks up a falling rubber worm and this seems to act as a giant strike indicator. i dont think the seagar addds to a strike ratio but it stands up better abrasion wise after a few fish are caught

made sewn smelt leaders with pline flouro and my catch rate went down compared to seagar blue label. was told it wouldnt matter so i let him use the pline leaders while he watched me catch fish ;D  while i said it went down, it pretty much turned off with the pline compared with the seagar

Ande period.

Tried so many different lines gave up trying new ones. Ande, Ande, Ande.

Seagar or drennon for the flouro tippet.

Braids only for deep water jigging.
