LOL. yea it was brutal back then. Almost made you not want to fish for them, It was all afternoon to clean a bucket full. It took a few minutes just to nail them to a board. I'm sure the old timer that showed me the fast and easy way is smiling from above right now. Thanks for taking the time to show me Old Timer!  Words of wisdom... Don't EVER discount what a old timer has to say, they may not have the most expensive gear or boat, but they are rich in knowledge and worth listening too. I think I will put that on my profile phrase. Whats scary is I'm becoming the Old Timer after all these years, always been willing to pass it on.

Thats not exactly the way I do it, but it works just as well by the looks of it. I cut down in front of the dorsal and score around the dorsal I get a little more meat out of my way and allows your fingers to fit the fat rib bones so you dont need pliers to pull it apart. but its the same principle. cleaned fish in one hand everything else in the other. I guess the important part is opening the back so it rips the skin right

its melting fast. the snow is almost gone now. maybe back out after the bullheads friday night. heck they could be hitting tonight? I remember fishing for them on the river one night the fishing was good until it skimmed over. I started hearing a tink tink noise when I cast. Got the spot light out and there was my rig sitting on top of the ice about 25 yds out.

Yup, that's the technique I use. Pliers aren't necessary for me unless the skin comes off on one side only, that doesn't happen too often.

All I do to clean them is filet them with an electric knife, you can do a bucket in a few minutes. I soak them in water to get the blood out. Then put together whatever spice combo you desire and bread crumb them.

Not my favorite fish to eat, but not bad for a meal or two each year.
