Lake Ontario Pier Fishing
« on: Apr 23, 2014, 08:51 PM »
Anyone fishing off the piers?  I want to get up there and make a few casts.  The boat is still in a cocoon.

Wilson, Olcott, Genesse River, Irondiquoit, Webster Park, Sodus, Oswego. Just to mention a few.

Couple of my buddies put 25 in the net between mexico point and fairhaven. All from shore. Got a huge native rainbow, and a 11lb atlantic to boot. Also a handful of browns over 10lbs.

I went up yesterday and brought the boat.  Never tried it before so I stopped at the Slippery Sinker in Olcott and they set me up with a couple of planer boards and were really helpful.  In 4 hours I got 3 steelhead and a coho. All just under legal so everything went back including a monster small mouth.  Firetiger raplala was the lure that got them all.  Water was 45-47 deg. in 10 feet.

Question on pier fishing - which piers are a better bet, Fair Haven or Oswego?

2nd question, on a day with a west or NW wind, is Fair Haven any more fishable than Oswego?

Thanks!

Is there any reason someone can't walk and fish the west breakwall to the Lighthouse? People are walking it all the time. People also fish from shore at flat rock by the end of the East wall. That parking is at the end of E 6th St maybe, I drove down there last year but can't remember the street.

No pier in Oswego

LMAO... well if there's no pier in Oswego, there's one helluva mirage that looks like a pier, and feels like a pier :)
