There are a couple of new diseases from the ticks.

I am on a committee in my town to address deer overpopulation and tick borne diseases and one of the people is the head of medicine at a local hospital. He said these new ones make lyme look like nothing.

He said they are much harder to treat and as someone mentioned earlier can be fatal.

How common is POW disease?

Physician-diagnosed POW disease is very rare. From 1958-2010, fewer than 60 cases were reported in the U.S. and Canada. From 2008-2012, 21 cases of POW disease have been reported in Minnesota alone. These cases had either lived in or visited wooded areas in north central or east central Minnesota.

It is possible that other cases of suspected viral encephalitis or meningitis during times of peak tick-borne disease transmission (May to October) are due to POW virus.

The problem with these figures: historically the Med Pro's have a very poor record on correct diagnosis of tick-born disease. Awareness is up or are the # of cases increasing? Why are they all talking POW now?

got to be  honest .....  i'm not  going to worry about it ...take a  few  precautions  ....like i said i had a  tick in my  knee  developed  the ring rash  ...the doctor had  me  on the anti botics  within a day  and after  i was fine ......  you can't live your life in fear  ....take  the  precautions   spray  some  bug  dope  and  check  yourself  after  ......  and  go  have  fun  .....  living is  alot more  fun then  being  alive  worring  about  a  tick  or  whatever ......
