Parasites in bullpout (aka bullhead catfish)
« on: Jul 12, 2014, 01:08 PM »
I just started fishing for bullpout this summer, and I've caught some really nice ones in a creek that feeds Lake Champlain.  Nice, clean, tasty fillets!
The other day I caught some smaller ones in a reservoir, and when I cleaned them I found their meat was riddled with tiny white dots.

I'm familiar with black spot in perch and other panfish.  These were about the same sized specks, but they were white.
I'm also familiar with yellow grub-- these were much smaller.

Usually I'm not scared of the worms, but there were so many of them that I threw the fish away-- Luckily I stopped fishing to make sure I could clean the fish after catching only a handful.

Does anybody know what these worms are?  Google didn't have my answer.
