Brook Trout tips?
« on: Aug 27, 2014, 05:18 PM »
This weekend I'm going to be camping by a small lake with wild brook trout. It has a maximum depth of 22 feet. Around what depth will the trout be holding at this time of year. What should I use to catch them? I will be using spinning gear, and I'll have worms and a variety of spinners, spoons, and rapalas. Drifting nightcrawlers near the bottom, vertical jigging, slow trolling with heavy slip sinkers? Am I on the right track? Thanks
Gino

You've got the plan. Night crawlers might be a little big, I'd look for Dillies. Also, I find that sometimes brook trout like a little orange in their spinners or spoons. As RAT said, find the right temp zone.  Good luck.  ;D
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.
The brook trout is the prom queen of the trout world, and a promiscuous prom queen at that!

Go pull a couple of corn stalks up, and you'll find the brookie worms!
That is if you have corn in your area.  :-\

I think I'm a little late for you.
I don't fish a brookie pond without my lake clear wabblers.  ;)
Call me lazy, but I run a snelled hook behind mine. # 8 with 3 red beads and a blade.
The angle of the dangle is directly proportionate to the heat of the beat.
