Sometimes I Wonder
« on: Sep 01, 2014, 10:52 AM »
I went fishing early this morning on the canal near my home. I was on the water well before sun up. As it got light I saw what I thought were some geese in the flats  a few hundred yards away. Next thing I knew, some brain surgeon was blasting away at a flock that was coming in to land near what were his decoys.

He fired a few times directly at the canal path and dropped one goose. The flock couldn't have been 20' off the water. He then motored his boat out into the canal from the back water and blasted away a few more times to dispatch the goose in the water.

He was no more than a few hundred yards from the lock and closer to the nature trail point . The main canal path was no more that 90 yards directly in front of him.

Lots of people use the path. In our area for jogging, walking their dogs, cycling etc. it's not uncommon for people to be out at first light.

This guy was an idiot.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

Yeah, it's an early season which is just fine. They're just feathered rats.

Sometimes the thought process misses certain things.  ::)
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.
The brook trout is the prom queen of the trout world, and a promiscuous prom queen at that!

It's not the kids that cause accidents Rat (you need another nick name ::) )

The overwhelming majority of accidents happen to or are caused by so called "experienced hunters" in the 45 year old range. Back when I taught gun and bow safety courses, my partner and I always made any parents present take e test at the end. It always amazed us how many failed or came close. Then they argued with us that the regs or questions were wrong.

Had the phone in my hand. I just couldn't see anyone responding on the opening day. I'll make contact and make the local ECO aware.

No way I was going to confront an idiot with a gun......unarmed.

Years ago when I was employed by DEC, canal property was off limits to hunting, also railroad property. RG, state police or sheriffs office would respond, they also eforce all NYS laws just like ECO's. Next time dial 911 !! Stay safe friend !! Keuka in Oct. remember !!

Yup!
Way too many of them for my liking.
But acting stupid when using a gun is another story.

X2 on the gun handling ,some things are fixable and stupidity isn't one of them , but the breasts do make good jerky
