FROM THIS SECTION
hunting on,at or canal locks or any other canal structure is PROHIBITED,

SECTION--150.12--HUNTING AND FISHING PERMITS NOT AUTHORIZED

LOOKS LIKE THE CANAL PEOPLE do not want  you to have  arms or hunt on thier lands

I would think that would be the canal people's job..... ::)
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.

The thought of hunting geese on the canal would never even cross my mind!  Are you serious?  Shotgun hunting on the canal?  This makes about as much sense as hunting geese in the grassy areas by Marketplace Mall!
Good Lord!

Reporting it should be on the minds of the canal lock operators.

There are several duck blinds on the canal. I'm makings some inquiries.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

The prohibition is on "canal structures," not the canal itself.  I know several individuals who hunt ducks on remote sections of the canal.  Never ever been bothered by anyone in law enforcement.

Canal property is owned  by the Thruway Authority, it is policed by the New York State Police, there are hundreds of miles of canal property and most of it is opened for hunting unless marked.  There is no problem with someone shooting geese, they are way over populated and that is why there is a special season.  Of course common sense of where you shoot is above all. You can't recall the shot once its gone.

How do you account for the regulation which prohibits carrying firearms on canal property?

The canal is policed by any officer that has jurisdiction. With that said, state police and conservation officers have jurisdiction anywhere in the state. The county that the canal runs through,  county sheriffs office would have jurisdiction and when the canal is part of a village or city, those law enforcement officers would also have jurisdiction.
