Don't rush it!
The fall can give you some of the best fishing, since many species begin to "pack-on-the-pounds" for the coming winter.
Just because the leaves are changing color, or fall from the trees doesn't mean there isn't a monster lurking beneath the surface.
Striped bass anglers look forward to the fall with bated breath, knowing that some of the biggest fish will be feeding heavily for their migrations south.
Freshwater fish may not have to migrate, but they do feed more as the fall approaches.
I don't even think about the ice until after Thanksgiving, and even then it's mostly prepping the gear and doing some scouting while I'm fishing.
I already have a few trips planned for the upcoming season, and I can only hope and pray that the weather cooperates.
My first excursions are typically mid-December in MA and NH, but it requires an early cold spell to get me even thinking about hitting early ice!
(I may be "crazy" as my family says, but I'm not stupid enough to rush out at the first signs of ice! )
