THIS MAY HELP--crappies are part of the sunfish family[two types-black and white]
donot like light,watern temp below 50`,
LOTS OF NAMES-HERE ARE A FEW--SPECKS,PAPERMOUTHS,WHITE PERCH,
CALICO BASS,BACHELOR PERCH,AND lots of other names,but are REAL
GOOD TO EAT.AND will go to 6#

you know me so well,BUT THIS IS not a fish story[there is some true to all storys]
you know i read A LOT.--THE RECORD-for whites[5# 3oz.]from enid dam mississippi
in1957 and the black was[6#]from seaplane canal louisiana in 1969
O,YES I HAVE got a "LOT" of crappies in the hudson river,and other ponds
TOM at river basin in catskill had one mounted,and it hanges on the wall
it was ABOUT 17in.did not weight it--note this one was NOT the biggest one
check it out

Just bustin' your chops Rat.
Crappies are a target of opportunity for me. If they're around, I'll fish for them. I've had a few "dinner plates" in my time.
I'd still like to see a 6#. Crappie. That's twice the NYS record.

There are a lot of big crappies (specks) in Fl... State record there is around 3.8 lbs My largest was 2 lbs10 oz.. See quite a few in the 2lb to 3 lb range. They are big crappies...

If I'm not mistaken, NY records for black and white are right around 3 1/2 lbs. I've heard about 2 lb crappie around here but, like "The Old Man" says, let's see them on the scale!

world records shows white crappie at 5.3# 1957 from MS. by fred bright
black is 4.8# 1981 from VA. by carl herring best one i have ever seen was a white out of the hudson that was 17" , my best ever was black a whisker over 14" hunts caught a 16" black 2 years ago that was posted on I-S that he had mounted that was a great fish , rats right better growing season in the south , rat can't seem to find that 6# checked several sites , help a bud out and stear me in the right direction , thanks , cause all i have are my IGFA books to check
