I caught a 29" Master Angler Bowfin on a fly rod mid summer. It destroyed the frog popper I tied the night before. I'm finishing up a few summer tasks like canning tomatos and then on to fall fishing stripers, salmon and browns.

I fished for crappie all summer, in my canoe.  It was my first year going after them, so it took me a while to figure them out.  But I got pretty good at finding them-- no electronics or trolling motor, just old-fashioned fishing.  I found some great spots, closer and closer to home, until I found a good spot just 5 miles from my house.  Well, ever since the weather started cooling and the water started turning over, they've all moved off most of my spots and now I have to figure them out all over again!

I didn't fish for trout as much as I usually do.  I did catch some dandies, though!  I caught my PB brown trout, casually casting into a reservoir while eating picnic dinner.  Wasn't expecting to catch anything, and BAM!  A monster.  Didn't measure it, but it was easily my best, and wild.  I went after brookies in ponds a few times-- caught a couple nice, fat, crayfish-fed trout.  I got my NY fishing license, carried my canoe into some remote ponds, and pretty much got skunked-- fun, though.
