My grandson had a day off of school yesterday and he is always wanting to go fishing so I took him to a lake that he chose. We didn't have a lot of time to fish but got him out for a couple hours. We fished from 12:00 to 2:30. Water temp was 54.7 and we were fishing in 25 to 35 FOW. This is the first time he has ever tight lined so it was a learning experience for him. This is the first fish we caught. I set the hook and handed him the rod and he reeled it in.
After getting a rod out for him and showing him how to drop the line to the bottom and reeling up a couple feet he got his hands wet at this. He said Grandpa how come I am not getting any bites and I just told him to be patient. All of a sudden I looked over and he had his first fish on by himself and it turned out to be a double. Both were keepers. His eyes lit up like you wouldn't believe. This kid is hooked.
He really likes fishing but I think driving the boat is a close second.
We had 13 fish in all. Biggest was 9 3/4. All were caught on crickets.
