2015 Hudson River Striper Reports
« on: Mar 16, 2015, 08:24 PM »
Ok guys, Its Striper Time! I wish all my fellow anglers a great season!

Went out today from shore in Haverstraw. Still some ice floating by. Fished this evening for 2 1/2 hours with bloods. Not a bite. There was a guy out in a boat that pulled in a 26"er though.

probably just resident stripers, but a 26"er is a nice resident . Got about 3 weeks to go . Last year was similar to this year. Water temp was 43 deg April 15th. That was the first week we started getting better fish over 30". Try real shallow like 3-7 fow on the warmer days till then.

Did you guys see the new striper regs for this year? There's a slot limit now, you can keep 18- 28 inchers and over 40. Nothing in between. It's up on the DEC site

looks like the Dec is now no better than congress... the season opened on March 15, but on March 17 they move the season opening day to April, but don't post this on their website until March 19!

The herring are around. Many guys including myself have been getting decent amount scapping from shore, guys out in boats have been jigging them, and the creeks are giving up plenty as well. Actual stripers have been few and far between, but I have heard some shore reports of fish as big as 42" as of today caught in the Saugerties area. Its been slow, once the water warms a bit, the action will pick up.

When is a good time to hit around the newburg beacon area.  I was thinking they usually are there now through may but was just curious with how cold its been.

Is seelys still open down by the river?

Fisehd from 4-8 pm from shore south of Kingston with live. Scapped two, scapping was tough. Very windy, no fish, no runs. Time to try a new spot

The stripers are in the river. DEC is having no problem finding fish to sample, but they aren't feeding yet, they all have empty stomachs.
