I know that Cannonsville Res allows kayaking and I believe Pepacton does too but I'm not 100% on that. If you check the NYC DEP website I'm sure it will advise. I think they allow electric troll motors too!

Here's everything you need to know about accessing the reservoirs for fishing and with a boat.

KAYAKS,Allowed powerwashed and given a 5 day permit.
Electric trollers allowed at cannonsville but, need to be power washed and stickered.
must be left at boat.
Id luv to put my Yak on the dams,I can just imagine what a 10 lb brown would do.
Pull you up and down the dam like a BOOBBER.LOL.
I hooked a bass maybe 20" sunday nite on a lake ,near the spill way. That bass tried everything in its power to get me over the spillway,,,i swear.lol.

What's the word on Cannonsville? Are they going to drain it down all the way?

Yes.....(well not quite all the way....down to 3% of capacity, if need be)
The " code orange alert" is off Cannonsville ... but they are currently draining the 95 billion gallon reservoir down at a rate of about 10" inches a day,at a max. 1500 cfs (not sure of how many gallons a day that is) until the reservoir is at 3 per cent of capacity. Further inspections and repairs , or a new concrete dam, instead of earthen, will be decided at that time after inspections and hydrologists reports etc..
The aquifer they hit while drilling for their hydro electric project is only 61 feet down on the earthen dam area.....scary stuff.

I just talked with a neighbor who was at a recent Cannonsville situation meeting. He said that the DEP Hydrologists and engineers said they will only drain the level of the reservoir down to a point that they can make repairs. They said they had no idea how far down that would be...75%, 50% 20% or down to 3% if a new dam is the final answer. They are pretty sure they will be able to isolate and fix the problems with the current earthen dam and aquifer below it, without draining the reservoir down all the way...time will tell.
For now it's draining at 1500 cfs down the West Branch, and also releasing down the tunnel to the Rondout too.
DEP is supposed to be updating their Website frequently about the situation at Cannonsville.(Not sure but might be nyc.gov cannonsville watershed)

Jager, I never know what to say. You catch some beautiful trout. Always impressed.
