Whitefish are an under fished for species, I'm looking forward to learning more. The new state record was caught at Michigan City this winter....Daniel Rostecki

Never knew much about them till we went to Green Bay last winter.
Cold water fish, from what I've learned as the weather gets warmer the deeper they go.
We were catching them in 60 to 80 ft of water on ice rods and what a blast. They said they move to much deeper water in the summer months.
Great tasting fish, you just have to make sure you clean them as soon as you hit shore or they get very soft on you. ;D
I would gladly do it again.

I have done the whitefish through ice up on sturgeon bay a few times now. It is a blast. Get a good group of guys to go and it makes a day, cooking out, few brews and a bunch of fish action, maybe even an occaisional eel pout to scream some drag on medium action at 60 foot deep. Only 5-6 hour drive, makes a nice weekend deal.
I would highly recommend looking into it! If you plan a trip and looking for others to join, keep me posted. I would go, in a hurry
its more than catching food, its also catching a piece of mind and integrity within
