 Isn't there some old mariners ritual for renaming a boat? This ceremony could be modified and used, but may involve some alcohol, and burning the old hat.  :o

Retired my old ball cap last year for a camo jungle hat (don't know what they're called) fishing did seem to slow down a little. Hmmm?

I had an old InFisherman hat (1970's) that I would only wear if I had gone 2 trips in a row with zero walleyes. It always did the trick. Lost it at some point (sure hope the wife didn't toss it) anyway, not having forced me to become a better walleye fisherman...h2l

I still have my original fishing hat. Got it in Florida some 25 years ago after I caught my first tarpon.ill shoot a picture later. The straw is for fly fishing  and hot days on the boat. Keeps my ears and face from getting burned. It also fends off any stray flies that come whizzing past my head when my casting gets out of hand :-\

OK, maybe not bright and upbeat then.

I have a fishing hat.
It has a brim all the way around like your straw hat.
Protects the ears, neck, etc. from sun.
Last weekend out on the boat I wore a baseball cap instead.
Brainfart!

So I have been spending the week with red ears and neck.
