2 first time halibut fishermen...
« on: May 23, 2015, 06:40 PM »
Well, two of my sons went out today for their first time at halibut fishing without me. They have both been going since they were about 5 or 6. They set 250 hooks about 8 miles SSE of "Saltyshores"  :D.
This is the largest. They made $870 in 4 hrs  :thumbup_smilie:

There's the proof, Doug, you trained them well! That's a good haul of "haulibut".

They must have bounced around a little in that slop and chop.

Nice catch!  They sure deserve all they made with that N.E. wind.  They will sleep good tonight.

Probably safe to say they won't be fishing for those puny salmon where I'll be in a couple of hours. I'd pound the bottom all week and I expect they will.

I advised them not to go out on their first day with upto 30 mph of wind but they did any way. Yes Jacksmelt that's Chris he goes with Jesse on Jesse's boat. That's the crew you will be with if you come down. They are at it again today, left at 4;30. They loaded up with bait and will set and haul every 4 hrs. This will be a great week as the tides will be getting smaller daily. Anyone wanting to try keep in mind these fish are very reachable for the next month and a half in waters 100-300' which many times is less then a 1/2 mile from shore.

The VERY best fish I ever ate! A couple years ago we lucked into some fresh steaks just up the peninsula from Jonesport when we were there for July 4th. Cooked it on the grill with a little butter and lemon-pepper seasoning and had it with fresh asparagus and roasted potatoes. A meal I'll never forget!!  ;D

We've bought it here, and it's just not the same.  :(
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.
The brook trout is the prom queen of the trout world, and a promiscuous prom queen at that!
