NY Fisherman - Hunting and BS Thread 2015
« on: Jun 25, 2015, 10:45 PM »
Figured we would get this thread going early this year  ;D Busy here with work and the kids, also sliding in some softball, mushroom hunting, archery, trail cams going out soon, etc...

Kids just turned 3 the other day. Most days we play outside before and after dinner. Lately it has been baseball, archery, and just running around  ;D

Before the kids were born my wife bought me a recurve for xmas. I shot it a little that winter but then didn't touch it till this year. I have been fortunate to take about 40 deer in the last 25 years with a compound bow, and dad and I use to shoot A LOT. Kinda got away from shooting as honestly its like riding a bike  8) Archery for me has always been a close range sport - I have shot one deer at 22 yards and one at 18 and the rest have been 6-12 yards. I plan on hunting this year with said recurve. My groups are good but I have a lot of work to do before im comfortable hunting with it. But reguardless it is fun to shoot and the kids enjoy it...

Kinda nice having an arrow retriever also...

Fastpitch Softball - love it!

Hamdsome firstbase dude...  8)

Picking some wild chantrells and black trumpets also...

Tank is well also. We havnt been fishing a ton but were not starving...

Whats everyone else got going on?

Great pictures DC. Those kids are getting big!

I think I have the same bow for my son but we haven't used it yet.

Nice pictures Jay ! Kids pics are awesome.....hope to see you and the family down here on the river soon....stop by when you're at camp.

Btw, like Trapper , I started out bow hunting with a recurve...pre compound days. Very deadly, but a lot less forgiving. ...but with lot's of practice ,it becomes easier and easier and more natural and instinctive....no sights necessary !
Just remember that you can't "hold at full draw" for 5 minutes waiting for the perfect shot angle, or for the buck to step out from behind a tree ,like you can with a compound!
I'm fishing my way through life .

I started taking my son at about the same age and it still brings us together all the time.
I can see all the exciting times ahead of you.

Forgot to mention the taxidermist bills. Mine built a new shop when my kids were growing up and I think I paid for most of it.

Chooch - we have been down a few times and stopped over but you must have been up north fishing. We will be down with the kids the weekend after the 4th

reeleyz - I'll take some picts of how I modded the kids bow - string nocks above and below the arrow and a arrow shelf extension to help keep the arrow there

Looking to book a wild boar hunt. Anyone one with recommendations? Which State, outfitters? Personal experience really pays off with the research. Web sites don't always get you a good hunt. Thanks.
