Thanks all you guy's...it was a special day for the 2 of us. Hopefully he'll remember this hunt until he is as old as I am right now. It's nice that North Carolina has the special youth turkey week, and ok for his age to participate with an adult....it enabled us to have some special time together...a real great experience for him, and a young kid that will be a hunter, and enjoy the out doors for the rest of his life.
To hear him tell the story of todays hunt  to his mom , my son, and his big sister when we got home, and describing the pounding of his heartbeat as that turkey gobbled louder and louder as it got closer and closer was priceless. He was a little bummed out from missing the tom, but he felt much better when I , and all his dads friends , told him about all the turkeys we have missed too, and at a much older age than he was today.

After the tom took off and he re-loaded the gun , I spotted the spent empty shell in the leaves....I picked it up, and that empty shell is going home with me this week, and will be on my bookshelf, alongside one of his pictures for a long, long time.  Special little boy and a special day for me .
I'm fishing my way through life .

Awesome story!!!  It's that feeling he had right there that it what it's all about. If you could bottle that rush and sell it you would be the richest man in the world. He will remember that moment for the rest of his life. Memories made!!!

For any of you hunter / gatherer types who like to take a leek in the woods, now is the time.  :w00t:
Picked theses ramps/leeks/wild onions last weekend. These were a little young, but should now be prime.

We got my daughter her first Tom this morning.  18 lbs,  5" beard, 3/4" spurs.  Exciting morning!
One more with the one we're after and we'll have two.
