Carp On The Mulberry Fly

Finally got to testing out the Mulberry Fly.
Went two for eight this morning with the 5wt. They hit the fly like a freight train. Snapped off 6 like I've never seen before. Went to 6 lb Stren for tippet and they just burned it up. I'll be re-rigging and beefing things up for the next go round. Only have a week or two left of the drop. Used up all the weighted flies I tied. I'm thinking 10 lb Flouro tippet.....at least.
Heck of a lot of fun I'll tell you!

That's cool. Good for you! Had to have been fun.
Round and round the mulberry bush....

So I got a bit frustrated with the original foam pattern. Trying to get the weight right for a sink similar to a real berry was ridiculous. So......
I did some original and then got a bit creative. Some Estaz....a couple of markers......I did couple with some old, red Chenille.
Furled up a few really heavy leaders too. I'll test them on the 8 wt tomorrow.....if it stops raining for a minute
In any event, I'll be ready Monday

I was following the other thread and saw when you made them. They looked good, and I knew they would work. Good job Rg!

I'm pretty sure they'd eat a shoe if it was the right color and dropped in the right place
Serious fun though.

That's neat.....I'll have to show my son, he's always tying stuff for carp and fishing all over the place. Which one would you recommend?

The foam body fly caught the fish yesterday. I haven't tried the others yet. I think, like any other fly you toss, presentation is 99.9% of the game. You need to plunk it down on the water just like the berries falling off the tree. They inhale it and as soon as they feel the hook it's rodeo time
Powerful fish!
