Big high water brookies and a line size question
« on: Jul 03, 2015, 11:21 PM »
Hit the pemigewasset today for a couple hours and despite the raging waters I managed to catch 8 brook trout all 15-18" my question is what size flouro should I be using im using 4lb vanish and it feels sketchy catching bigger trout on was thinking about going up to 6lb seaguar or maybe trying 5lb sunline any thoughts? I toss everything from jigs to spinners and spoons
I've fished a million places and I've rocked em all

6 lb. won't hinder your bite percentage a bit. In high water like the I'll even bump up to 8 with no issues.
It’s not being Cocky if you can back it up.

What's everyone's thoughts on real light braid to a flouro leader?

I run braid on every single reel I own for every application but I would never use it straight up as a leader. I've done it at night striper fishing but I still don't even like to do that no shock absorber and to many pulled hooks but in daylight never way to visible for mature holdover or wild/native fish

You got it! I like 10 or 8 lb. power pro ice since early season salmon it does not get stiff. The Nanofil does cast like a dream but seems to seat funny on spools and causes a lot more wind knots. Even with manually closing the bail which should be done anyway and tightening the line quick

I just spooled my light tackle rod with P-Line Floroclear and couldn't be happier.  You get the castability of nanofil/braid, very limited line memory and the invisibility of fluoro.
