Fishing poles are made with thermal set epoxy resin. So with in reason they should be fine but if storing in attics in shops etc think twice the heat may be not good for them... I had a rod a cheap one melt in the sun. I still have it ....  i still have the rod were my tip soften and drooped in the sun I snapped it off and went back fishing...but it does happen...

Direct sunlight will destroy and weaken monofilament line within several weeks. Poor knot strength will be the first symptom.

Oh yeah Mac.....your rods are all pristine ::)

I should have taken pictures of the wreck I'm working on right now. My friend left it in his boat in the yard for quite a few years. The eyes were all falling off, one side of the rod finish was delaminated, the other like brand new, the nice Fuji IPS handle disintegrating. Had to strip the entire blank with an exact-o knife.

As a rod builder, I say, treat your equipment well and it will last. Don't leave your rods sitting in the sun baking in your truck year round. Cover your boat or put it in the garage.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

I'm with RG, and also a rod builder. Besides doing the various things that snap them, heat and direct sunlight are the best ways to wreck a rod. Some rods use hot melt glue for various things. A hot car is plenty to soften it up or even release it. The epoxy that covers the threads and holds just about everything else together will harden, crack, and separate from the blank. Unless you fish with cheapies that you replace every couple years, get them out of your car when they don't need to be in there.

You saw (repaired) one of my rods.
Although I have self-repaired another very similar to that one.

 :D

But I do agree with you for the most part.
Heat, UV rays, ozone, etc. will break down d**n near anything.
My boat rods all get stored in my shed when not in use.

But I do have a rod in the truck for emergency use.
And it's been in there for going on 7-8 years and it's fine.
BTW, it's a glass rod.
Not graphite or boron.
Also, the line is a braid.
Not mono.

As always.....................................YMMV

Sun will rot your mono line out. Weak knots will loose the first big mama you hook into

Just bustin your chops Mac. You use Gorilla Glue again?  :rotflol: :rotflol:

On the other hand, rods and reels and line are outdoor tools. They're supposed to be made to use in the sun, so, a lot depends on what you start with. Junk will always be junk. As far as line is concerned, I change line pretty often. I use good backer and add as much as I need. Seldom more than 50 yards.

For my kind of fishing, that's the best.
