10/7/15 Gill fishing
« on: Oct 07, 2015, 06:24 PM »

First time on this lake this year.  I bet the lake was at least 3 feet low.  Don't know what is going on there.  It is a very springy lake.  Launched the boat and went to start the motor and it wouldn't start.  Motor is 16 years old and this is the first time that has happened.  Decided to use the electric motor and just fish close to the access.  About every 15 minutes I would try and start the motor again without any luck.  About 45 minutes later when trying to start it, it took off and ran like a charm.  Fished some of the spots I am used to seeing fish and nothing there.  Finally found an area that held some fish.  Fished for a total of 5 hours and managed these 16 gills.  All came in 26 to 30 fow tightening using crickets.  Water temp. was 64.5 degrees.  Went home and gave them to the neighbor lady.  She was really happy.

There's no good reason.  I have a cricket cage somewhere in my garage.  In the winter I always use spikes, then beemoths the rest of the year, aside from minnows for spring time crappies.  Beemoths and spikes are cheap and easy.  They keep for awhile, and I can usually get a couple days fishing from 1 container of either.
