LUND Owners?
« on: Feb 05, 2016, 03:49 PM »
Hey LUND owners, I am curious how you set up your rod holders, down riggers, planer boards?  I have been looking at different options such as tracks and different set up for the sport trac system....

These are expensive, but really strong.

http://www.traxstech.com/home.html

I don't use them though.

Here's a couple pictures of my Rebel -

It's in storage, or I would snap a few closeup photos of the downrigger brackets for you.
The sport track mounting system, IMHO, isn't strong enough to handle a downrigger.
Even if you use their  brackets.
They are fine to bolt some Scotty rod holders to - which is what I do so I can move them around as needed.
And the Scotty in the Sport Track mount will even hold a rod with large dipseys.
But I would not trust them for a downrigger.

Very nice, I just upgraded to the Crossover XS, it has a much wider sides than my Rebel XL...I have been looking at the Cisco mounting systems...I'm just not sure of the set up...and yes all of this stuff is pricey!  I'm thinking maybe a 36" track and then put the riggers on it as well as some rod holders...

Cisco rod holders are top of the line.  Used by a ton of charter captains.  There's a few different companies that make similar designed holders but none seemed as strong as the Cisco ones.  I really like the triple tree/planer reel combo setup.  Keeps three planer rods and the planer reels all on one single tree.  Very nice design

I could be wrong but I believe the company is called great lakes planers, but there rod holders are definitely a very close second if not just as good as the Cisco products.  They are even making billet aluminum downriggers too now, the cost is insane but they are sweet looking/functioning if money happens to be no object in your case lol

I believe the billet riggers are a traxstech product actually now that I've looked around a little.  But in my internet perusing I found these, magnum-metalz.com.  They make aluminum riggers and rod holders.   Someone said these are being made by the guy who originally made the vector Downrigger that got bought out and remarketed as the traxstech rigger.   Look very well made

They hear you have Lund and the price goes up. My buddy has wanted to mount rod holders through the gunnels of my boat since I got it. (ProV 1800) lost a rod out of Scotty holder once. ( rod reel and 9 ner rig $250). The price of the holder is relative to price of gear that it holds.

Wouldn't use a Scotty (or other like them) for trout and salmon on Ontario.
Although we use them in the spring along the shoreline for smaller browns and cohos.
My trolling these days is for eyes in Erie.
And because of their storage factor so they don't interfere with my cover I elect to use them.
Also, my Lund will only be used for 4-5 years more before I retire and move south and buy a different boat.
So they work well for me.
But I totally agree there are far stronger rod holders.

Do us a favor and post pics of whatever you end up doing.

I love boat porn.

I will... I picked up 2 "used one time"  Cannon Mag 5s...really good deal...I also picked up from the same guy a dual planer board mast...I really only need two swivel mounts for the riggers, and 2 of the sport trac down rigger mounts...the boat came with two really nice rod holder so 2 more would get me started...I can run 2 riggers and two rods off each planer board...6 rods is plenty to start...we'll see...

As far as rod holders go, I like the Folbe Advantage Rod Holder and also the Folbe Jr. They cost about 50 bucks each, but I think they are well worth it.

Pick up a set of dual rod holders for the boom on those riggers and stack em up.   Better yet just cheat em and save the rods for dipsies  ;)
