I trying to come up with a check list of stuff I got to do before soft water get here so far
for shore fisher men:

1) re - spooled all the port huron rods with 65# braid pp to be exact ...
2) greased and oiled all my penn reels..
3) went threw and removed all the swivels and cut lose mono of the swivels etc in my tackle boxes
4) poured more lead sinker and sinkers slider rigs.
5) bought ton of new spoons / body baits to use in port huron fishing off the wall..
6) picked up a ton of leader spool to make leaders
7) bought a new reel to replace my broken one...
8)check all the guides for cracks fractures bends etc...  good time to re-warp them before the season starts...
9) made a ceiling rod rack from pvc sch 40 and 1-1/8 inch long screws cut them on the table saw and drilled a couple hole supports them nicely from the basement ceiling .
10) check rods for broken thread wraps and one that need new epoxy cause it is a good time to do it cause I am sitting around waiting.. (still got one to do )
11)check the blank for fractures split shot hits and plane cracks.
12) clean the tackle box and organize it!

boat anglers standard check list:

if I had a boat I would charge the battery and run the hose threw the motor garbage can or ear muffs and make sure it was peeing water  threw the motor water out let and make sure the impeller was working then grease the wheel bearing on the trailer then connect and check the wiring for the bulbs turn signals etc......then make sure it has a drain plug for the transom. etc...etc  but since I don't I am not going to worry but if you do throw it up here even if it is a boat Idea cause it might remind some one else  any other idea on  thing to check be fore the open water season...

Use ethanol free fuel for sure.

Use methanol free fuel for sure.

"ethanol" free fuel, but you are correct.........if you can locate it.
There was a link on here somewhere that took you to a website where you locate a filling station that sold ethanol free gas.
I don't have any nearby that are convenient, so I use Startron in my fuel.
It's supposed to counteract the ethanol.

Count my fingers......count my toes...........build an addition on my house for my burgeoning fly rod collection......pray......pray for an early spring.

The rest is ready.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.

that's fine and dandy but I got a tank of gas with gelled gas in it 6 mo's after adding it to it the Pontiac Fiero still is sitting in my drive way cause of it.. I got to drop the tank and get the chunks out this spring and replace the fuel pump and sock filter and fuel filter so I don't think I will use that stuff ever again...been sitting there ever since 2005 cause of this. lawn ornament now if you will...lol's only car it was used in that had it happen reg gas six months later did not gel so that should make you think why they posted that on there site? done head gaskets on 15 different cars, van, trucks, takes me around 6 months  to get the parts and do and that's the only one that had a problem....

don't forget to check the life vest charge if you got a inflateable life vest and the flares make sure there not expired.

Not necessarily in the following order -

Get the boat outta storage and home into the garage - in maybe 2 weeks.
Move the HDS-5 up on the front and tie it into the Terrova universal transducer.
Install the new HDS-8 on the dash and run the ethernet cable between the 2 units.
Install the 4 tattle tail flags Jeff bought me for xmas onto the inline planners.
Hook up the batteries, check water levels and plug in the on-board charger.
Check VHF radio.
Check the trailer lights, tire air pressure, wheel bearings, and spare tire.
Lube the hitch lock, receiver, winch and dolly wheel.
Clean and wax the boat.
Armor All on all the seats and dash.
Spray silicone lube on all of the boat cover snaps.
Apply 3M Scotchgard™ Outdoor Water Shield to the boat cover.
Check flares for expiration date and test boat horn and lights.
Check on-board first aid kit and tool box.
Check oil level in main motor and kicker.
Replace batteries in ipilot remote.
Using water cups, fire up and test main motor.
Using garden hose hookup, fire up and test kicker.
Top off fuel tank and add Startron.
Locate transom and live well plugs.

Bought a new (very old) boat last fall. Got sick of borrowing my old man's boat to fish bigger water.

So my checklist is huge. Not only do I have to revive a 37 year old boat, but I also have to get all the gear for the boat. Not borrowing the boat, means not being able to borrow any gear either. And then I still have to re-rig all my small water gear, too.

The first two lines are counter-productive for the third
