brooktrout study
« on: May 19, 2016, 01:23 PM »
d.e.c. has started a new study as to which brooktrout CROSS is the best one for our
needs. the old cross between the temiscamie brookie and the domestic brookie[crown point?]
or the new cross between the windfall brookie and the domestic brookie]
-
i will tell you what i know about each one.
1-temiscamie
2-domestic
3- windfall
-
the study will check the performance, influence of each then evaluate them
i think i can get some photos of them?

the  domestic brookie is a brookie that has been changed to do well in the hatchery but does not do well
in the wild. lives for about 3 years and does not get real big

matures at 2 to 3 years old, acid resistant[rain].brightly colored, but does not like to stay put .

I believe beau champ's fish was a temiscamie strain.. As Rat said they can still thrive in lakes prone to acid rain and Silver lake area had a history of that. Whether or not the fish really came from silver lake specifically or the silver lake wilderness area is a matter of believing Mr. Beauchamp. I mean, why would anyone willingly give up their hot spot...

Rat ,really appreciate your knowledge on this  and look forward to learning more on this topic,
my personal best was a windfall strain ,just a beautiful specimen ,from long lake area as well
Always wonder why many look at a brown trout as a true native, none are ,but a brookie is in Northeast mainly
how many strains are there,I've read a lot about it but really want to know just how many fall native to the state of new york,I've seen some studies say just two,a north and south strain ???
Nothing saying new york only ,just over all to where they migrated after the ice done it's deed many moons ago
