Catherine creek landlock salmon Debate-o-Rama!
« on: Jul 16, 2016, 07:52 PM »
Let me start by saying I'm sorry I didn't put this in the catherine creek thread, but that doesn't get any attention this time of year... I've been in an on-going argument with a couple people who claim the landlocked salmon of Seneca lake do NOT (not a single one!) run up Catherine creek in the fall when conditions allow (this is me hedging). From research, I think I'm right, that they do run sometimes... PLEASE help! Pictures PPLEASEEE. If I am wrong and they don't run Catherine creek, then let me have it, call me a dumby. If they do indeed run in Catherine, PLEASE give info to bury my nay sayers

Other Seneca lake tribs get some salmon in the fall I wouldn't see why Catherine wouldn't.... Probably depends on the water flow

Thanks Rat, I found those pics and used them as evidence with no luck.. They claimed the tail wasn't forked In the picture with the little girl with the salmon and the other picture with the same fish you posted. Has anyone caught one out of Catherine? or any Seneca trib? centerpin?

Sorry, no pics but I have seen Landlocks in Catharine in the fall. Fishing with a friend around the first week of November in the early 2000's, he caught and released one in the 4-5lb. range from the pool where Havana Glen dumps in. I remember it being a fresh fish that had not darkened up yet. It was definitely a Salmon, I've caught enough of them to know that.

A lot of the FLX tributaries seem to have a species that prefer them more than others. Sure, Fall Creek gets a nice share of 'bows, but it gets good numbers AND size of browns and LLs in the fall..just a for instance. In some cases this is because of past or present aggressive stocking programs in particular lakes or tribs, while in others its because populations of other salmonids are either weakend by ecological problems, or absent from the ecology altogether. Catherine gained its name over the years through the strength of its rainbow runs, which is now its primary association.
Calling fishing a hobby is like calling brain surgery a job.
