« on: Sep 15, 2016, 07:53 PM »
I got out on Maxi today. Managed a few smallmouth on jigs . Found the perch bite after a little moving around, Got a mess of nice ones on plastic and small jigs 7--10ftw. drifting it was a blast!! No eyes on the lindy rigs. But had some bitten off crawlers.

That ramp set up is a PIA  , sure was busy for a Thursday

Glad to see you get some perch! I always have a tough time finding them during open water. I do a lot of drifting out there and you'd think id pick up on a few perch every now and again. Hard water I usually do better though. There are some real nice perch on there!!

MAYBE, IT IS JUST BECAUSE I DON'T GET THEM ALL THAT OFTEN. WHEN I AM FORTUNATE ENOUGH TO GET ONE I TRUELY LOVE IT.

They are slimy and you have to contend with the Y-bones, but they are excellent eating.  I'd rank those 1. perch/bluegill, 3. walleye/pike, 5. crappie.
Catching the lunkers of tomorrow today!

That ramp is more of a challenge than anything.  You think that ramp is bad, try putting in at the OTHER public ramp on the other side of the lake.  I would advise only kayaks and car toppers.

Northerns are surprisingly good eating but you need to learn how to clean them.

Best fish to eat is the one on the plate at the time. Many fish have both good and bad qualities. Sometimes it may be the person cooking the fish. A good friend of mine when I was much younger, his mom made the best tasting carp I have ever had.

I just heard the other day that there was another public launch on Maxi but it was horrible. Could care less for the boat but I'd be interested to see where it is for ice fishing maybe.

That is what I use it for. Room for two or three vehicles. Drive south past the academy. You will go past it probably. Tucked betweentwo houses. Good luck.

Northern are the best food in the lake in my opinion.
