Bass Pro Shops buys Cabelas
« on: Oct 03, 2016, 10:28 AM »
Thoughts?

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/10/03/bass-pro-shops-to-buy-cabelas-for-6550-a-share-in-cash.html

In my industry of taxidermy, a company by the name of McKenzie bought 90 percent of our suppliers. When that happened prices shot through the roof.

A fish mannikin that cost $12.50 before the buy out is now 30 to 40 dollars.

I agree that prices will most likely increase.

Cabelas brand also had a pretty good warranty.  They claim most items had a lifetime warranty.  I wonder if this will continue to be honored after the merger and if they will continue to produce cabelas brand products.

This is exactly been my concerns.
I have bought from both over the years and have ALWAYS had better service from Cabelas.

I wish that Cabelas was buying Bass Pro.

But this resulted from Cabelas stock being undervalued, etc.

Here is something that was in many of the articles.

"The deal comes about 10 months after Sidney, Neb.-based Cabela's effectively put itself up for sale at the urging of hedge fund Elliott Management, which had declared the hunting-and-fishing retailer undervalued and called for the company to consider a sale or reorganization."

We will see what happens.

I agree that it used to be better but I've had a few reels and other things replaced no questions asked.  It seems like they pick and choose which products that they honor the warranty on.

If you lend someone $20 and never see that person again, it was probably worth it.
