Extra Rainbows for the Big Lake
« on: Oct 10, 2016, 09:26 AM »
Heard from a friend that the F&G will be stocking several thousand excess rainbows in to the big lake this fall.  I was wondering if anyone else had also heard this? I heard they were younger fish, but it should help out next spring and winter at the least.

I helped stock them. They were 6 fish to the pound (roughly 6" each). We boat stocked them out of ames farm a few weeks ago.  I think it was 5 or 6 thousand fish in total. They might be legal size by the end of the ice fishing season. Winni got the lowest numbers of rainbows this spring in a while so this will definitely help.

Boat stocking was a very good idea.
I hope they keep it up.
That and the additional size at stocking will be a big help to the overall mortality.

Prolly gonna be some fat lakers (and smallies) next year, but that's good too.
It is understood that fishing licenses, gas, bait, etc., all cost money, but try not to let a limit of trout be your only gauge for success. – Ben Nugent, (NH F&G) Regional Fisheries Biologist
