Todays catch 10/18/16
« on: Oct 18, 2016, 03:17 PM »
Got out this morning in the wind and really didn't have a good feeling that I was going to catch many fish.  I caught this limit of gills in 28 - 31 FOW.  You would never guess what I caught them on?  Crickets.  Water temp was 64 degrees.  Biggest gill was 9 3/4.

bet that was fun pulling them up from that depth. Were you using an ice pole for the practice.

Not really an ice rod, but a 40 year old 5 ft. ultralight.  Bought 2 of them over 40 years ago with real small shimano reels and still have both of them to this day.

Nice catch.... it's fun pulling them up from those depths, they do the circle all the way up.

Yeah, they do tend to come up in a spiral.
Because of their action on the line I have done lots of ice fishing in recent years primarily for panfish.
Doesn't require a whole lot of gear and can pay off with some unexpected catches!
