Forcasters predict warm winter
« on: Oct 22, 2016, 08:32 PM »

WASHINGTON — Federal forecasters predict this winter may paint the U.S. in stripes of different weather: Warmer and drier than normal in the south, and colder and wetter than usual in the far north.

The National Weather Service winter outlook , issued Thursday, gets murky in the nation’s middle belt, with no particular expectation for trends in temperature or  We might have to stay on this site all winter. Ice did not get very thick last year. This year could be worst!!!!!!

Don't say that!  I've been itching to do some jigging with my sonar.

It's sure looking like last year's weather again here in Western NY. Been almost too warm to bow hunt. I never got on the ice last winter and got darn little snowmobile riding. Of course, the money I saved on winter heat let me buy a couple more toys ;D.

the ground is so warm the snow won't last 24 hrs. This will bring out the birds...

Come on now, how accurate have they been in forecasting weather without having to do it 2-4 months in advance?

I'll believe it when I DON"T see it....

Actually, last year they were pretty much spot on. It’s easier to predict trends than specifics day to day. Weather has a lot of impinging factors in the short term. El Nino or El Nina, for example, are large factors that effect long term scenarios.

You may get the chance! Polar vortex may make it warmer......in Europe!
We here might be getting the extended season.

https://www.scientificamerican.com/article/dreaded-polar-vortex-may-be-shifting/

"Monthly global temperatures continue to set warmth records, but North America and Europe have seen extreme cold during some winter days as a result of the polar vortex. However, researchers found, the cold air brought into lower latitudes by the vortex has also offset global warming temperatures.”

We all have observed mild winters followed by cold springs. I prefer spring to be spring when it gets here.
