Get on with it... Got my first river smallie the second week of January.
After that big warm up and wind that wrecked central Indiana's ice
fishing, I put the little poles away and got out the spinning rod.  Been
dinging smallies  and crappie ever since....

What portion of the river do you fish? Above resi or below dam? I fish below dam all the way to the Wabash and do very well in the summer months. Fishing would be tough this early in that section.
