Sons first walleye
« on: May 08, 2017, 07:22 PM »
Went this evening and had about the most unexpected result. I took my 9 year old son out to fish for some catfish on the wabash near where it joins the eel here in Logansport. The eel is a high muddy mess and the wabash not much better, just not quite as high.  Only took one rod and some liver and worms. Started out with liver and had a few hits but nothing great. Switched over to crawlers and i put about 5 on the hook and cast out. As i casted, some of my line caught on a small tree limb but did not interfere with my cast much. I didn't even notice it, my son says "dad your line is on that limb". So  i pick the rod back up and give it 3 or 4 quick shakes and it comes loose, before i can even put the rod back down it starts jerking like crazy.  I hand it to my son and he does a good job fighting what i figured to be a cat.  Imagine my surprise when i seen this 25 inch walleye swimming to the net. My sons first walleye ever and ranks up there with some of the better ones i have caught over the last few years.

Thanks guys. Ive been fishing off and on for eyes this year since february with no luck, so he has me beat lol. I usually catch a few in this general area every year but mostly it's in the fall and on jigs. This was about as unexpected as it gets, especially considering the water conditions.  Now im going to have to go back with my walleye gear and see what happens.

Only two other people I would love to fish with (maybe) more than my boys, but my grandfather and dad are gone.

Treasured times!!!

Thanks for sharing.

Way to go, and a great fish there.  I have caught a lot of walleyes through the years, but very few that big.
