Keeper fluke on the cape still scarce It will be awhile for any consistency for them on the North Shore. I'll bet you'll find a good winter flounder bite though
I fish every chance I get and enjoy every time I fish. They call it fishing not catchin

Anyone surfcast for them?  I tried a bit last year and got some shorts in rhody but would love to get after them some more.

I tried from surf Friday night caught a mackerel instead put hit back out but he got off. Telling you that Mack wasn't 20 feet off beach. Had fish on other pole left it to reel in when I came back I had a mackerel. Blue must be here if macks are on beaches. Fished beach last night one schoolie. I'll be in Nantucket sound all next week hope to get some Fluke for the table myself.

Not on the North shore but plentiful in RI. I have logged 122 keepers in 5 trips and the season is still young.

Thanks lowaccord66,

The odd thing is that i haven't had many undersized fish this season but i also haven't had any slobs. Largest so far is 8lbs but last year i had a 13.45, and two 11's by this time. The good thing is that the average sized fish has been 23-24"

I like it!  Perhaps we need to trade a canal trip for a fluke trip!

How difficult is it to bring these fish up with all the flat surface area?

I caught a similar fish, flounder, in Maine off a bridge in Ogonquet (sp?) but it's been so long ago I don't remember. I just know the fish were a delicious white meat.

not difficult at all. 10 - 30lb braid and a medium power rod will do the trick for smalls and slobs alike. even striped bass and blues can be brought in on these set ups without difficulty. You will definitely know the difference between a 2lber and a 5lber, and even more so from a 5lber to a 10lber that's for sure! the 10's will make you think you are "stuck" on the bottom before they start shaking that head. Once you do it long enough you can judge not only the size of fluke but also other species. Fluke, sea bass, scup, and even sea robins all have a distinct bite and fight. Other than ice fishing this is definitely my favorite.
