Best bimini set up for 16' Lund?
« on: Jul 06, 2017, 08:40 PM »
I just bought a used Alaskan Lund and I love it so far, but would be better with a bimini...

There are so many on the market, but I'm worried about be able to move around and actually fish. I'm guessing most models would get in the way of this, so something that folds and/or is easily removable would be the way to go?

Any suggestions would be awesome, thanks!

Here is what I put on my 1650 Rebel XL.  It is very nice for the money. -

But I didn't like the plastic mounts it came with.  also, they were straight up mounts and I needed some that angled in a little bit.  So I bought these metal mounts with a quick release pin to take it off and install it easy.

I haven't taken photos yet but will in a week or two when I can get back out on the lake.

Good luck.

awesome! What dimensions did you go with?

Did you say you haven't had it out on the water yet? I'm wondering about the durability of the aluminum in bigger waters. Does yours fold back without have to remove it (or can it be modified in your opinion)?

From what I'm gathering it's not the top that matters but the deck mount/hinges. That makes life easier

3 bows
6' x 46" high x 73-78" wide

Nope - not on the water yet.
It will fold back, but my trailer cover won't go over it.
Hence, the quick release pins.
Also note the rear pole which allows it to be folded up while not being used and you can walk under it.
Also, it's not laying in the boat in your way.

The pole ends are plastic and I'm thinking I will replace them too.
But maybe as the break.

It's a very good bimini for the price IMHO

Attack,
Did you install this yourself?
Difficulty???
Equal Billing: Crankbait degrees; Typically, the narrower the bill, the tighter the wiggle; the wider the bill, the wider the wobble.

Yes.
Simple.
Drill a few holes and screw things down.
Get a friend to help you hold it up in position so you locate it where you want it before you start drilling things.
Then use a pencil to mark where the mounts go.
3 people is even better.
The other 2 people can hold it up and move it back and forth while you stand back looking at things.
Then they can hold it in place while you mark with a pencil where you want to drill the holes.

My dad always said -
Measure twice.
Cut or drill once.

Good luck.

I ordered mine (same model) etc and waiting. I had to get a canvas color I'm not psyched about in order to get the right size and everything installed for vacation. Thanks for the advice looks like I may have saved a few hundred bucks.

I have a similar one on my 16' Smokercraft.  I got it from Cabelas and it came with all stainless hardware.  Mine looke funny when it's up because it's so tall for a small boat but I do a lot of trolling so I wanted to be able to stand up under it without bending over and I'm six feet tall.  It folds down nicely to sit over my stern bench seat.  If I'm trolling and I don't have it up I just flip it forward and lay it down that way.

yea, maybe 5'
But it works and the price was right.
You have a nice rig too.

Mine will be for sale in 3-4 when I retire.
