Well, my favorite reel of all time is a Zebco 33.
I remember the Christmas I got it and I think I was about 8 years old. I remember it being the longest winter ever waiting for April 1st!!!!
Up and down the creek, on the bikes riding down to fish the river, and then we'd sometime ride to the reservoir to fish (9 miles one way)!!!!
I gave that reel to my 9 year old son two years ago and it still works great.

Don't use your sick days when you are sick use them when the fish are biting. It all looks the same on your time card

Penn 975 Lever Drag....Can easily handle 30lb+ Striped Bass as well as the largemouth. Spool it with 50lb super braid and you have a reel that can handle any freshwater fish and alot of saltwater fish. Oh yeah and still made in the USA, guess that is why it is $300.

Shimano Solstace 2500RH (2008 model if you can find one) is a great reel.

my favorite spinning real is actually one i bought about 20 years ago. it's a diawa ps1600. none of the new reels i own can cast as good as that old diawa. old squeaky i call it, because the handle squeaks a bit when you crank it. the funny thing is, a few years ago i sprayed it to stop the squeaking but it didn't seem the same. i couldn't wait for the squeak to come back. weird, i know... ;D
