Anyone have any input on these units looking to upgrade but am not familiar with either Also are they worth the money for the bigger units?

Wasn't the helix I meant to compare to it was the ONIX

Go with two HDS-9's (or HDS-7's) instead.
And link them with the Ethernet cable.
Awesome!
I did this between my HDS-5 and my HDS-8.
You then have one for chart and one for graph.
And you always have a backup if one takes a dump.

Thanks attack from what can tell they are the same exact unit just bigger screen correct?

Pretty much.
A ton of the pros are going with 2 HDS-9 units instead of a single 12.
I really wish I would have bought 2 HDS-8 units.
I got the one I bought for $649 last winter from Cabelas.
Factory refurbished by Lowrance with a full warranty.
It was a steal and I love it.
The screen is WAY more brilliant in the sun and easier to read than my HDS-5, and they are both 2nd Gen units.
Go figure?!?!?
But be sure to get the heavy duty RAM mount if you go with anything larger than a HDS-5.
(personal experience here)
Have fun.
