CT River Low Water & Parking
« on: Aug 05, 2019, 08:12 AM »
By now, you have probably heard about the low water in the CT River above Holyoke MA due to work on the dam. I judge the water level by checking the pipes that connect to the platform next to the Mt. Tom (Rte. 5) boat launch. In the summer, the higher pipe is always out of water and sometimes the lower one is visible. As of late Sunday (Aug. 4) morning, the water was down only about 6" more than usual.

Of greater concern is the new attention being paid to illegal parking. Those parking anywhere on Rte. 5 are getting ticketed, and the power station land now has traffic cones and ropes to keep people off. The only other parking is the small bike path lot, but not if you have a trailer. Think twice about showing up late on a weekend.
