understood, but at factory low temp, i was grilling not smoking.

the 80 degree test i did was to see if i could get it low enough to cold smoke some fish, which needs a temp of around 85 degrees for a few days

the biggest problem i have had is getting the temp lower than what low will put out, which is about 200 degrees. i have been able to get it as low as 80 by throttling the gas valve

Used to have the same problem !
I orderd another damper for mine and cut a 4 inch hole in the side towards the top and put the damper over the hole so I could have more control over the heat ! Works well now .
I can get temps from as low as 80 to as high as 225 .
