Sometimes it's not wine at all. For instance I like really spicy foods (esp. thai fish or cajun fish) paired w/a Guinness Stout or Turbo Dog. I like that choclatey finish w/ the spices.
Funny you mentioned the cheeseburgers and heffeweizen. I've had some heffeweizens that tasted like butter popcorn to me.
