Catt catfishing
« on: Apr 01, 2019, 05:23 AM »
So I've decided to start taking advantage of ALL of the great fishing that surrounds me.. This year I want to add catfishing on the catt early spring!!!! As soon as the water warms up a tad I'm gonna give it a shot this year from the boat.... Stinky nasty bait and minnows are gonna be on my hook!!! Excited for some rod bending!
Anyone else do this???

I do.
Have been doing it for almost 20 yrs.
Guys were down there last Friday night fishing for them.
It's a tad early.
Begins to get good mid to late April when they come in from the lake.
I like June because the weather is typically nicer to sit on the bank.
I like leaches because I'll get an occasional smallie or walleye.
But the darn small panfish don't typically mess with it and strip the hook.

Have fun.

Every year I like to get out at least once for cats in the Catt. I also usually fish it in June. Unfortunately I almost always have floating cottonwood to mess with. I usually will tie up some chicken liver sacs or use night crawlers. I'll have a rod rigged up with a slip float and another with just a slip sinker or split shot. Both reels have braid on them but I attach a barrel swivel with a mono leader for easier break-offs when snagged. I've fished it out of a boat and on the shore, at night and during the day. Lots of fun and relaxing, except if you fish near the train trestles.
