Two Ponds in Chicopee
« on: Mar 24, 2021, 08:20 PM »
I grew up in Chicopee, bugt haven't lived in the area for close to 30 years now.  (Boy, how time flies!)

Out of nostalgia, I was looking at a map of Chicopee recently, and spotted two ponds that I dimly recall (as in I knew they existed, but that's about all) from my youth.

One of them is near Terimar Street and the other one is close to Szetela Drive.

My two questions:

First, what are the names of those two ponds?  (The map does not say).

Second, has anyone out there ever fished either one of them, and are there any fish in there, and, if so, what?

For this post, you can call me "Curious in the Berkshires."

I failed to find anything regarding names or fish populations but I took a look on google earth, both are pretty small(one being 250x100ft the other 200x200 at the widest points) with potential limited access right off the road. From what I can tell they both appear to have reasonable water quality and aren't choked out by weeds. I'd take a cast if I was in the area. But I wouldn't plan a trip for them specifically.

Wouldn't they have the usual complement of pumpkinseeds, largemouth bass, maybe some yellow perch and chain pickerel? Maybe even some nonnative bluegills?

Agreed that they're worth taking a cast if I'm in the area, but not making a special trip.

As for what might be in them, that's a bit more speculative.

Sunfish and blue gill - - almost certainly.  Perch, pickerel and bass - - I should be so lucky.

If and when I get down that way and can check it out, I'll submit a follow up post about what I find.

The one off Szetela is called Wanda pond. It is full of sentiment.

I have varying sentiments about ponds that fill with sediments.
